During the annual fall advisory committee program on Tuesday, November 13,
Jayme Caughron, GRTS director, recognized two individuals who have contributed greatly to Grand
River Technical School for many years.
Roder
Nyberg was instrumental in establishing the school in 1967 and then went
on to serve as director for 22 years, retiring in 1989. A plaque has been
placed on the wall of the school at the entryway, and he was presented
with a framed certificate. The plaque reads "In recognition and gratitude for
your commitment to and leadership of Chillicothe-Area Vocational Technical
School (1967-1989)." Caughron presented it on behalf of GRTS past and
present staff and students, industry and community members. She thanked
Roder for his service to the school and community and for promoting career
and technical education.
Vera Gibson, retired health occupations instructor, was also recognized
for her service to the school. Vera was one of the first teachers hired when
the school was started in 1967, and she went on to teach nearly 40 years.
She continues to help any time that she can, including teaching a CNA
class over the summer of 2018. Vera went above and beyond in helping her
students from bringing them cupcakes and treats for snacks while they
studied to spending many extra hours tutoring them for which she refused
payment. As she has done for many years before, Vera Gibson made a huge
difference in the lives of her students and helped Grand River Tech uphold
our commitment to the facilities by providing a quality CNA program for
their employees.
