Child
Care Services
The
Child Care Services Program prepares students to work as child care attendants, assistants
or managers of child care centers!
What Will You Learn?The Child Care Services units cover:
- Child growth and development
- Program planning and management
- Promoting cognitive, social, emotional and physical
development
- Behavior guidance
- Learning experiences for children
- Child abuse and neglect
Competencies &
Costs
Child care students will need to get a physical, a TB test, and be on the
FCSR (Family Care Safety Registry). The TB test may be done with the classroom or on your own. Cost is
approximately $5. FCSR is approximately $11. Applications for FCSR will be
done in class. Physicals must be obtained by the student, and the form returned to the teacher.
Competencies for Child Care Services
Provide for a safe healthy learning environment, both indoors and
out
- Plan, prepare and serve nutritious meals or snacks
- Plan and arrange learning centers for an early childhood program
- Use effective communication methods
- Interact appropriately with children in individual and group situations
- Relate to families in a positive manner
- Display professionalism
- Demonstrate enjoyment of working with young children
- Utilize leadership qualities and skills
- Plan and guide appropriate learning activities
- Observe and record important milestones in all areas of development, including physical, cognitive and social-emotional
development

Qualifying students will receive a Child Development Associate
(CDA) credential through the National Council for
Early Childhood Professional Recognition. |

High
School students attend for 3 hours per day over a 2 year period.
Post high school
students attend for 6 hours per day for 9 months, giving them over 1,080 hours of
instruction!

The morning preschool class at
Diapers and Diplomas
enjoyed watching their teacher,
Pam Miller, carve a pumpkin which they later lighted. Votes were taken as to what shape the eyes
and noses should be. The class dressed up in their Halloween costumes
and paraded
through the Grand River Technical School as part of their annual fall celebration.

FCCLA
Students participate in the GRTS
FCCLA chapter
as part of the child care program. Our chapter usually sends interested
students to National Cluster meetings held each fall, regional meeting in Liberty, Missouri in October, and state leadership meeting in
Columbia in the spring. Several students are currently planning to enter the STAR events competition
this year that will be held in February.
